This is a question that many ask in their Christian walk. Some may be newbies or very well-seasoned in the faith, but both share one commonality, and that is the questioning of clearly hearing God. This feeling and position in our lives can drive us to the places of doubt, loss of hope and or defeat. And at times, this questioning is really driven from a place within our soul from the lack of the closeness or security we never obtained from our earthly fathers, mothers, authority figures and even intimate relationships. So, it's this constant wonder and nervousness coming to God asking for things that are far from our reach. And when we come to our Heavenly Father this way, we are truly missing out on what He truly has in store for us.
So, how do we come to him? What questions do we ask Him? Will we ask for things that are selfish? Will He turn His back or mislead us based on our performance in life? There are more and more questions that we ask ourselves, that in turn cause us to keep away from someone so pure and holy, for the fact that we just don’t measure up to what we think He wants from us.
We see others praying and receiving and walking out this awesome life with God, but for us, there just may be that disconnect that leaves us wondering if there truly is a God. This my friend is the constant battle within our minds that the enemy (satan) would love to see us stay in forever. He doesn’t want us to receive all the goodness that God has for us. He is the constant reminder of our past that needs to be put to rest in our lives. (Rev. 12:10)
It is time to change our posture, and it begins with a mind-shift. When we come to God unclothed, transparent and vulnerable, is when He can really work in our lives.(Psalms 139:23-24) This is an act that in this day and age, vulnerability kills us. We share the hurts and pains in our lives to some that we feel we can trust and be real with, and in fact, they have mutilated the relationship by tainting what was vulnerable, and now the trust is gone. Ever feel that way?
Well, here’s where the shift comes into play. There are 3 elements in our life that will help us to rely and trust in a God we cannot see.
Our posture is everything. This posture begins in our minds, before it can manifest in our spirit. Humility is coming to God with no self-confidence of our own. We have got to come to Him vulnerable in all ways, in everything that we hold onto in order for Him to be able to help us. Pride is the beast that will keep us from every promise of God (Prov. 16:18). Humility will bring water the seed of our requests. The soil that we come with, needs the nurturing of the holy spirit in order for the shifts to happen in our lives. This humility is digging into the Word of God. (Ps. 119:18) Find out what God’s plans are for you. Listen to His voice and see what He is telling you. He wants to speak to us and with us, His main objective is to have relationship with us. Next week we will go over “submission and prayer.”
Have you confessed Jesus as Lord and savior in your life? You can do that in this simple prayer:
Lord Jesus, I know I have sinned, and I am in need of a savior. I know that you are the Son of God and you have died for my sins. I repent today, and I dedicate my life to you and I ask that you would redeem my life, my home, my family and everything that is lacking in my life today. I confess that Jesus is my Lord and savior, and I will live for you starting this day. In Jesus name, amen.
It's as simple as that! I want to remind you that we are here for you as well and are lifting you up in prayer. Reach out to us if you need to firstname.lastname@example.org.
God bless and we will see you next week!!
